The difference is due to counterweights in the new dual knit head band, not the device. I haven't tried the band with my M2 yet, but those who have or have bought the M5 VP say it makes a significant improvement in comfort. That's not the wrong direction.

The new band is more comfortable. The device actually feels lighter since the weight is distributed better.

I came here to ask what anyone uses this for.

Seems like a super cool…thing. I just have no idea what I’d use it for, other than using it as an immersive TV.

It is a fantastic experience for consuming video. This is especially so for Apple Immersive video. But, honestly, you need to be affluent to justify the price tag if that is your only usage.

I use the device many hours a day. My primary use case is as the display for my Mac Studio and my MacBook Pro. The visual comfort beats my previous set up (three 3rd-party 4k physical displays and one Apple Thunderbolt). Having all the extraneous windows open floating around means my Mac Virtual Display isn't cluttered, leaving lots of room for Xcode windows while debugging iOS and AVP apps. The isolation provided by virtual environments is a real bonus. Debugging on sitting on the beach in Bora Bora is pretty awesome. It works very well for taking phone calls and doing FaceTime also–with the caveat that with windows open all over the place in space, it is even easier to get distracted while talking.

Will surely sell well if priced at $699 and for education at $599. Hope to see some nice colors for the upcoming MacBook. Think it should launch in March/April.

I’ll be selling my AVP off and won’t miss it. The fact Apple didn’t do trades on these says a lot about how much of a nothing burger these things are. It’s a product trying to find a problem to solve when there really isn’t one. It’s too clunky.

Content which is the best you will get anywhere and use it with my Mac for having bigger surface area. New band makes it easier to keep on my head for hours on end

Would say I use it most days. Not for everybody for sure but I enjoy the tech and enjoying what future may hold in different form factor
