m2t and avi files from PC

I have hdv (m2t) and dv (avi) capture files on my pc. I'd like to convert them to 720p files to stream to my appletv. My daughter has an imac that I am thinking about using since I'm guessing it'll be easier to do the conversion with it.

Will the imac be able to read the m2t and avi files from my pc? I am pretty sure that I can network them over to it. Any tricks to creating the 720p files in imovie, or is it pretty straight forward?

This will be the second time in a matter of a few minutes that I've pimped a piece of software I have no connection to other than being a user:

VisualHub

Yes, it cost a small amount of money, but it's the best.

Edit: And the iMac doesn't need to "read" the files per se. You just need to transfer them over and the run them through VisualHub.
