Apple's 24-inch iMac has been updated with the new M3 chip that offers notable speed improvements over the prior M1, but as it has not been refreshed since 2021, there are also a few other new features.

The machine's design has not been updated, and it comes in the same colors, but the more advanced M3 chip allows the 24-inch iMac to be outfitted with up to 24GB Unified Memory, up from the 16GB maximum in the M1 version.

Apple has also added Wi-Fi 6E support to allow the iMac to connect to 6GHz networks, and it supports the Bluetooth 5.3 protocol for improved connectivity and range.

The M3 iMac still comes in two-port and four-port varieties with the latter featuring an extra two USB 3 ports. The two-port model has an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, while the four-port model has an 8-core GPU and 10-core GPU. The version with more ports also supports up to 2TB of storage, while the two-port model is limited to 1TB.

Pricing on the M3 iMac starts at $1,299 for the two Thunderbolt port model, while the model with two Thunderbolt ports and two USB 3 ports is priced starting at $1,499. Apple is accepting orders today, with the new machines set to arrive to customers next week.

Was hoping for better colors.. kinda lame update

I needed to replace my nearly 7 year old intel iMac that we use as a kitchen family computer but despite wanting bold colors or at least something new, I was just too turned off by the pastel which doesn't match our "old" cherry kitchen (I guess this would look nice in the trendy white rooms). Silver again it is lol... M3 iMac / 1TB / 24GB

The fact that the M3 iMac starts with 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of memory in 2023 is wild to me... not only are those the same numbers as a $1099 iPhone 15 Pro, but this means that Apple is releasing a desktop computer with less storage and memory than some Android flagships.

I like laptops. But 99% of the time I use it at the table. If I were to buy a Mac this year or next, should it be the m3 iMac for me? Is it enough for general use, editing videos, editing photos, consuming content and playing possible games?

If I were to buy it, I would buy it like this:

Personally, I was expecting an M3 move after the a17 pro. Since Apple uses the base model even in the Macbook Pro, it means that the plain M3 is quite powerful.

I had a 27" monitor for a while before. It seemed too big. I think 24" is ideal.

I may not get it this year, but it will be my priority next year or when the opportunity arises. Although there may be a 14" MP for a similar price. I don't know.

So they said that this is replacing both the 24" and 27" Intel iMacs, but it's only available in a 24" display? I LOLed at the "4.5k" as my M1 Mac Mini can run a 5k display without issues. I'd love to upgrade, but can't settle for the lack of resolution.

Y A W N. Useless 256gb storage and remains at 24". Pretty sad that my 9 year old iMacs are still my main machine. They will need to be replaced within 6 months. Will not pay the premium tax for a separate computer and overpriced monitor.

LOL, 2 USB, why not 8? 24" screen, no thanks, not doing a massive downgrade after a decade of 27" 5k. Zero innovation. Who cares if an iMac is thin? How stupid! Still Massive bezels for no reason other than wanting to make it thin. I guess my 2019 iMac will stay with me a few more years. 8GB RAM?!?!? Is it 2013 in Cupertino? My 2014 iMac had 32GB. Up to 24? LOL. So you can surf the internet, check email, and little else. 256GB of storage? Is it 2006? And you can pay a fortune for a measly 2TB. I had 3.1 in my iMac a decade ago. Should be 8TB minimum. So $2700 for a low end computer when all the specs are maxed out.

In Australia the iMac is now insanely priced IMO. $2,499 for the base model 8/256 with ethernet.
In comparison the Mac mini with the same 8/256 spec is $999.

Thats $1500 for a 24" monitor!

I was all ready to pick up an iMac, but now going to get a mini instead.
Yeah I'm confused. Why did Australia prices go up so much?? Everything is $300 more than before.

The wait continues for a large screen iMac. Apple are so cynical hobbling this machine with a 24in Screen. Us iMac 27in 5k users just can't downgrade to that size. It's all done to cynical marketing and profits. They don't want to cannibalise the sales of the Studio Display. (Which is a whopping $2,499 AUD here in OZ)

Well its clear the 27" isn't coming back. You're now hoping on that 32" model Gurman guesses Apple might be testing someday... someday before making a last-minute decision to abandon it.
