Did it sell out maybe?

I saw the $250 off earlier today, but it was only on certain low end configs

All the configs "people tend to want" never get the big discounts
Maybe but would be odd to have this sale posted like this if it was so exclusive and short lived. Still don’t see any mention of this sale anywhere else on other deal websites etc.

In my experience using it, it's been a good dock. Just make sure you plug in the power adapter, because I forgot to do that at first (cord was out of sight and I though I had already plugged it in) and it does nothing without power! The light on the front of it is somewhat bright blue, not horrible but it may bother some. Most of the negatives I hear from others have to do with the drive ejector software, so if you plan on plugging drives into the dock and swapping it between computers a lot maybe steer clear?

I still see it right now (very bottom right -- just clicked the link in main article here)

So I just checked on Safari, on my same machine here...
$65 discount shown! (not the $250)

So they are doing something here to target demographics or something

Side by side w/ Safari on left & Firefox on the right

That they are only offering an actual discount if you sign up for their membership (or are a member)

Pretty simple really
Not really, the membership is more than a discount. As already mentioned, at worst you spent nothing extra for the membership when purchasing a discounted product thus making you at minimum equal and arguably better off than having it bought elsewhere, given the benefits ancillary to the discount not counting the future benefits for the remainder of the membership.
Oh but you are because next year you'll have forgotten that you bought the stupid membership and Best Buy will conveniently renew your membership automatically at the then prevailing rate.
Well, that's on you. It's honestly a bad argument given most subscriptions (at least all the ones I've used) have renewal reminders and allow you to cancel at any point so it doesn't automatically renew. It wouldn't be the membership that is stupid in that scenario now would it?

And as already mentioned, if you buy even one product in any given year, it pays for itself, so even if you intended to cancel and forgot, aside from not buying a product offered at best buy, no harm.

Despite this story appearing on MacRumors today, this sale had actually been running for several days and I think it ended last night. I had the base 15" MB Air in my cart yesterday for $1049 and now it's not there and I don't see the discount.

this is what the Best Buy employee told me as well

I have been using both TS3 plus and TS4, they work perfectly, others simply can't compete in terms of quality and functionality of the docks. TS3 plus is only 200 bucks now.

Sounds a lot like what they told me when I went to a timeshare sales pitch, TBH. Not interested. Each to their own.
its definitely worth it for Apple products at Best Buy as it includes 2 years of AppleCare + coverage at flat one time rate for all Apple products purchased under a single annual subscription and extended warrantees on non-Apple products as well. I definitely use it and was highly skeptical at first as well.

My lesson for the day... read the comments before rushing out to the store. I saw this story yesterday but didn't have time to get out to the store until today; a Best Buy employee told me that they had no MacBook sales even remotely resembling the ones described in this article. Their website likewise shows me no joy.

Given the mixed commentary by others in this thread on finding/not finding the sales, I'm guessing that not only was it possibly already expired in some places, as noted by InnocenceMyth, but it may have also been a region-locked set of sales.
