There’s a difference between big profits and successive record profits every quarter. The latter is the problem here (and Apple is just one small example in this).
Because shareholders demand infinite growth. If Apple makes a record profit one quarter, they're all happy. If Apple makes the exact same profit the next quarter, it's bad news.

Dear MacRumors. Can you please stop, in your articles, acting like the M3Pro chips don’t also have an external display limitation? They only support 2 external displays which is a big regression from the 4 external displays we had on the previous intel version of these models.

This update (if Apple chooses to provide it) would be just as significant for pro users who would like to buy an M3Pro instead of M3Max for their triple monitor setups.

Scum bag Apple on full display.
The company is going in the wrong direction. Everything they have been doing lately is a net negative to customers.

A $2k laptop in 2024 should not have a display limitation like the MacBook Pro had.
Or, just maybe, it was buggy and needed further tweaks before global release, hmm?

I think this means we need to be aware of every limitation.
From iPhones, to Apple Pencil and everything else.

I know penny pinching Tim needs to satisfy shareholders, but it really is a kick to the balls for users.

I'd rather they be honest and say, well, we're limiting certain features for higher end models.

My point is that Apple used to be a magical company. Every product release had an aura to it. Accessories were more fun..they had awesome keynotes. Now , I’d even go as far as saying Samsung and Microsoft have caught up with them and they’re too arrogant to realize it. They nickel and dime their customers like they always have except now the magic is floating away.

Change is needed.
Lol the same Samsung that duplicates every Google app and essentially forces their phones / tablets to have double the bloatware? Also the same M$ that wants to replace the start menu with Copilot and still ships Control Panel and Settings nevermind Windows indexing and the Antivirus processes going haywire at any time?

This is so snide of them. People will have bought higher spec machines just for this feature, only for it to be “innovated” into the less expensive machines via a software update later down the line. This is why I hate Timmy’s Apple a lot of the time.

TBH I’m surprised “pencil hover” didn’t appear on the M1 iPad Pro 6 months after the M2 iPad Pro launch.

so they just discovered a "magical" and "courageous" way of enabling this? What a clown show ...

Clearly you harbor some hatred towards Apple.

May I introduce you to ... a dozen PC makers that you may have more luck with.

Technology evolves. Software evolves. Be thankful that they are providing this upgrade at all, rather than artificially limiting the new M3 Air.

Its gonna be a FREE upgrade.

In “clamshell” mode

Edit: still only 2 displays, and you can’t use built-in keyboard and trackpad.

The M3Pro is still limited to 2 displays when it would be nice to have 3 (or 4 like we had before with intel).

I hope Apple eventually extends this update so that EVERY M3 era chip can drive the Max number of displays it has drivers for in clamshell mode.
It would be an absolute travesty if they didn’t do that!

I only have one monitor so it won’t worry me too much, but I know for many people’s work flows, this would make a huge difference.

I can’t speak for MrGimper, but this is one example of many where Apple thinks of profits first and users second.

64 GB base iPhone
64 GB base iPad
8/256 base Mac
10th Gen iPad Pencil workaround
FineWoven accessories
Gimping features like this (after users have bought DisplayLink solutions for monitors)

All of this stuff could’ve been avoided if they and we (as shareholders) didn’t demand infinite growth every quarter.

(End rant. This rant wasn’t towards you, just venting.)

I mean it’s not like Apple make the hardware AND the software is it. So who were they waiting on to be able to magically suddenly activate this dual monitor support?

He didn't say it was mis-sold or falsely advertised, just that this feature should've been included from the start.

What was the point of locking out this feature if it was always going to be enabled in an update eventually?

Was there some kind of software hurdle they recently overcame? Or did they decide enabling this would increase sales of the M3 Air, and they would then have to enable it on the Pro as well to justify the difference in price?
Yeah, but then where do you stop… this should have been included, this that and the other. There is no rule that it should have been included. They make a product, the decide what it does and then sell it.

If its no good for you, then don't buy it… if it is, buy it.

They are a company. They are doing what all companies across the world do, make profit.

If you dont like it, dont buy it. Thats your power as a consumer.

Who said they locked it? There coukd have been a technical hold back they couldn’t figure out and now they have?
