Anyone else have issues with their M4 13-inch, with random restarts and resets?

It seems a few times a day it just decides to restart, and a few times it has gone totally black and required the up-volume, down-volume, hold power reset. I think it happened more with 17.5.1, but am not sure.

EDIT: Thanks all. It happened enough to make me not want it. So back it went 4 days before my 14 day return period ended. Got a new one that hasn't had any issues yet--knock on wood.

Once yesterday which was the 3rd day of ownership. Still on 17.5. Only got the black screen for 10-15 seconds and eventually it just turned back on.

No, no issues at all. Maybe something you got installed. Make a backup and then reset to factory, Just run it like that for a while to see if its a bad app or not.

yes my 13" was unresponsive with a black screen for about 15 seconds. never happened with my M1 or M2. maybe software related

Nothing of the sort like that on my end; been using mine a ton every day for work stuff (Microsoft Office-type work) and watching videos, web browsing, etc. I was putting together a video tutorial for work today using iMovie for several hours; again, no issues like what you’re describing.

I might return mine and buy a replacement one before the 14 days are up—not looking forward to set up all over again. I’m pretty sure it’s randomly restarting several times a day and then going dead requiring the reset—although I’m trying to see if that’s linked to when I use the keyboard to lock it.

If it’s an app—not sure how to find the offending one. I set it up as a new device rather than transferring over the data from my old iPad too.

I’ve noticed it a bit on the 11” M4, mostly when connected to an external display. I’m guessing it’s a software issue.

Ok, so looking at the analytics and data, there are 15 panic logs. So something is going on weird. I’m loathe to reset and try again as it requires me to load all the apps from my IT department. Sigh.

“DCP PANIC - ASSERT!AppleDCPDPTXPowerController.cpp:538 No device added after powering on the rails.”

My new 13” has never done this. It is not a good sign. If mine did this, I would return and buy another. Do not let the return date pass.
