Think the iPad Air will be more than enough for most users. The main difference will be lack of FaceID, OLED and ProMotion on Air. I have the Pro in 11” cellular variant and am very happy with my iPad.

Oh sorry must have missed them, but OLED that should be in the next ipad air but only single stack not tandem, that was shown on the apple roadmap chart.
Too bad for that guy with his very real condition that makes him unable to use oled displays

I thought I wanted an M5 ipad pro, might the M4 ipad air be good enough?

Note: I think I've narrowed it down to the 11 inch size. Strictly speaking, I don't "need" either one this is more of a "want".

Furture proof is a big criteria. I feel like the ram bump for the M4 ipad air bodes well and maybe it doesn't matter all that much if it's really true that all the M chip ipad hardware options are a bit overkill for ipad iOS.

Points for the ipad pro: I'd probably enjoy the better screen quality, the thinness and the thinner bezels and the thunderbolt port would be very nice to have/meaningful to my workflow. I really liked the pro better than the air, in person. I didn't think that the difference in the screen quality would be something that would be meaningful to me, but it was (and all the thinness).

Points for the ipad air: I don't want to spend more than I have to, to have a "very nice" experience. I'm a bit concerned about the possiblity of both flicker and image burn-in with the OLED I think I would actually prefer the touch ID to face ID. (the ipad air hardware specs might be somewhere between good enough and overkill as it is).
