Without going too off topic, I tend to upgrade only when I really need to. My previous phone was the 14 Pro Max and before that, an iPhone 11 which was an upgrade from my 6 Plus, before that, a 5S, 4S, 3GS and 3G and finally the original 8GB model.
Y’all follow up on this mysterious iPad bug. Has it been patched in iOS 18.3.1 yet and no more automatic restarts besides automatic iOS updates? Lmk.

My iPad mini rebooted recently with no apparent cause. I was not using it at the time. I use it every day, so it wasn’t the inactivity reboot. iPad mini 7 on 18.3.1.

Still had the automatic updates set to be on?

Has the battery health went down too fast?
Yes, automatic updates are switched on, as always for me (I have been on 18.3.1 since its release date).

I have not experienced issues with battery drain or battery health (still at 100% since I got it in October).

Knew it. Probs it updated overnight.

You got your iPad mini 7th gen launch day right?

I waited a few weeks. It was late October.
It’s perfectly normal to experience an iPad restart unexpectedly when you have automatic updates enabled.

However, if you’re specifically referring to resprings, kernel panics, or other similar issues, then that’s a different matter.

Even when no update has been installed? I installed 18.3.1 when it was first released; my latest “random” restart happened a couple days ago.

But if automatic restarts are possible at other times when automatic updates are enabled…well, I guess I learned something. 🤷‍♂️

Only Apple knows for sure…

Be it on Mac (which also will prompt you to use your full login vs. Touch ID. It’s been a while since my last forced PIN request despite having Face ID.
You running 18.3.1 or 18.4 beta 2 iPadOS?

iPadOS 18.3.1, If I had a spare device, I’d likely beta on it.
Based on what I’ve read, it seems like the lower battery health on your iPad and iPhone might be causing unexpected shutdowns and restarts. It could be confusing a lower battery percentage with a fully charged battery that’s just minutes or hours off the charger.

I asked an AWU user who has a 2020 iPad Pro with the pre-Arm chip, and he doesn’t seem to have this issue either. He uses his iPad sparingly, mainly for reading books and Bible studies, just like you do for documenting notes.

To rule out more accurately it would be better if start-up and shutdown sounds exist like some recent iPhones have, if iPadOS has that feature. But the AWU user mentioned that it’s likely this is just a specific issue for you. So, @d5aqoëp , do you play any battery-intensive games or run a lot of applications in the background often?
