The iPad Pro M4's OLED screen is in a completely different league from the previous iPad Pro. Is it necessary for most people? Absolutely not. Nonetheless, it's absolutely fantastic. The Pro also has twice the storage of the iPad Air plus Face ID.
My point is that the existence of the iPad Pro shouldn’t factor into a comparison between the basic iPad and the iPad Air. The Air display was preferable to the basic iPad before the iPad Pro moved to OLED, and it still is. I’m an M4 iPad Pro user myself, but that doesn’t change that.

Depends on what you're doing - that third-rate MediaTek chip in it isn't great. Even my S8 Ultra has more kick for some stuff.

“With the ‌iPad Pro‌, you essentially get an improved display, a faster chip, Face ID support, better audio, ProRes video recording, and the option to use the higher-end keyboard case.”

What is the point of this post?
Ngl y’all can get keyboard cases including Smart Keyboard and Magic Keyboard for iPad Air and 10th gen iPad !!! The only myth about this thing is that y’all cannot get Face ID and promotion on any other iPad besides iPad Pro.

Fair enough, but then again, what I'm saying is if you really want a better screen, it may be worth considering the iPad Pro over the iPad Air, especially if you value the increased 256 GB storage and Face ID. Out of the three tiers, at retail pricing, the iPad Air is the least attractive to me.

The iPad is attractive because it's cheap and does 96% of what an iPad Air does.
The iPad Pro is attractive because has an amazing screen, 256 GB base storage, and Face ID, as well as the option to get a better Magic Keyboard too.
The iPad Air has the same 128 GB and Touch ID as the much cheaper iPad, and the screen is also 60 Hz LCD. Some people don't like the air gap in the iPad screen, and that's fine, but to me it's not really a big deal. (We have an older iPad, and the screen doesn't bother me vs. the laminated LCDs.) I hear the non-laminated iPads are a bigger problem when used outside in the sun, but the iPad Air will also be a problem in the sun because of its limited brightness.

In my case, the difference in cost between the iPad Pro M4 and the iPad Air 256 GB was CA$370, which is currently about US$266. For that price difference, you get a much better screen, Face ID, and the option to use the newer and nicer Magic Keyboard. But like I mentioned earlier, I can also write off part of the cost, so it's easier for me to stomach the price difference.

So for storage yes I agree it has 256gb but 128 might be enough for most… now is it better to buy iPad Air + MacBook Pro or iPad Pro and MacBook Air… well I prefer MacBook Pro and iPad air
I use an iPad Pro M4 with Mac mini M4. I also still have my old 2017 Core m3 MacBook. It's quite slow but I don't do much with it at all these days. My go to "laptop" is my iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard.

I don't really need a Mac laptop anymore, but I keep that old 2017 MacBook around just in case, and because I love its 12" size. I will be buying an M4 MacBook Air for my wife though, to replace her 2017 Core i5 MacBook Air, which doesn't support hardware h.265 HEVC decode acceleration. (My 2017 MacBook does.) If I were to buy a new Mac laptop for myself though, I'd get the Air, since that's all I need, but I prefer the trackpad on the MacBook Pro.

People really undersell how good the screens are on the M4 models. Better screen than my much more expensive OLED TV.
Yup. I don't need the iPad Pro M4 but I really like it. It will be good when OLED comes to the MacBook Pros in a year or two, too. I won't be getting a MacBook Pro, but the line is overdue for it.

A 13" iPad Pro w/ no upgrades and a Magic kb is $1650. A 14" MBP is $50 cheaper but has twice the storage, twice the RAM, and an OS that lets the user climb the mountains and sing the songs they like to sing. The iPad Pro exists less because of "pros" and more because Apple has enough customers with disposable income and/or a cultish desire to be seen with the latest Apple product

I just ordered a refurbished 11" 3rd gen iPad Pro to replace my 10.5". I get an M1 chip, ProMotion, 4 speakers, more current wifi and bluetooth, everything I need to keep me happy for the next several years :)

Touch ID is more convenient if you want to share the tablet with family members.

I have a Pro 13" and I bought it only for FaceID. The screen is great, but side by side with my wife's 12.9" Air one would have to be a nitpicker to think the OLED screen is worth the extra money. Yes, viewing angles for my Pro are better (like I care) and if you scroll down text fast there is the noticeable difference in refresh rate. Honestly, I think Apple chose not to give the Air the old Pro non OLED screen because they wanted to cripple the refresh rate on the Air to drive people to Pro. FaceID is the only reason I bought it, like I said.

Don't get me wrong, my Pro 13" is awesome and I have the disposable income to not care that I may have overpaid. I spend all day doing IT administrator work, cloud development, and project management on PCs. After work it is nice to use my Pro with the Pro Magic Keyboard and not have to deal with "A real computer" as some people call them.

Id say a refurbished M2 iPad Pro with 1TB (16gb ram) is probably the best value tablet out there.
Or that. Not sure why anyone would buy the new Air if older m series generations of the Pro are available at a similar price or better. And unless a power user who wants an 11” form factor with an OLED, the older 12.9” mini led displays are still pretty fantastic.

iPadOS support. Going forward, even the current base iPad will be updated for longer than all the LCD iPad Pros.

I will personally select the iPad Pro. The main difference comes down to 120Hz on the Pro and FaceID. Other than that the iPad Air is also a great iPad and should be more than enough for most.

The MBP also has a longer battery life

why is the air display more yellow and the pro is more blue?

OLEDs tend to be more cold (more bluesih) in appearance whereas LCDs appear more warmer (more yellowish). Most noticeable when compared side by side.
