Has anyone figured out if it's possible to run four monitors on the new base M4 Mac mini? The specs mention support for up to three monitors, but I'm wondering if there's any way to connect a fourth one.

Not with a standard setup. Apple silicon chips have had hard limits in the GPU on how many displays they can terminate. DisplayLink adapters/docks let you get around this.

Look into how people used multiple monitors on the M1 MacBook using DisplayLink docks. The primary downside to displaylink is a VERY small amount of lag and that you need the special drivers and dock.

I've been considering DisplayLink docks, but I'm concerned about potential lag or stuttering with my displays. It seems like the Mac Studio might be my best option for a true, hardware-supported 4-monitor setup.

I do 4 big screens on my home desktop but my GFX card has 4 dedicated video outputs. Would be shocked if that was possible on the Mini M4. Maybe 3 tops.

I already have 4 monitors, 3 1440P and 1 1080P (This is my work setup). I'm using 2018 Mac mini with eGPU. I'm looking to keep the same monitors setup and just upgrade the Mac. I might just look for a used Mac Studio. If I can find one for around $1000 I might just do that.
