I purchased this M4 several months ago. It came with Sequoia. I'm starting to get notifications suggesting I upgrade to Tahoe. I have read so-so things about Tahoe. What is the current thinking?

The great thing about macOS is that you can downgrade. Make a backup (which you should be doing anyway), and upgrade. If you don't like it, then downgrade and restore your backup.

Alternatively, if you have the space, create a new volume and install Tahoe to that and try things out. That will leave your Sequoia volume and data intact.
