I just powered up my new Macbook Pro M5 MAX, next to my M4 MAX -- can't even get past the setup where it attempts to detect another Mac or a TM volume. I tried rebooting the M5, connecting it directly to via TB cable, and directly to my Anker Hub, where the TM volume is.

Nada.

I went on Support Chat, but they wanted me to create a new user, which would have required me to log in to iCloud and would have re-replicated my Desktop, etc. I have been using Macs for years and never saw a big fail like this.

I will take it to the Apple Store and let them dig into it -- but I am very puzzled. Anyone else experience this issue?

Sorry for going off-topic, why did you need an M5 Max if you already had an M4 Max? Was it about the chip, or something else?
