Hi,

I'm just upgrading my external Thunderbolt 3 1TB drive to a larger Thunderbolt 4 2TB drive for my new M4. I have them plugged into the back with a USBC display adaptor cable for a second monitor.

I have been getting some issues with connecting to the TB3 drive and also errors copying some files over from the T3 to the T4 drive which is a bit concerning. Just this morning, I got a notification error that an accessory needs more power. I would expect the power draw for external drives to be pretty standard to handle.

My question:

1) Are these two related issues?

2) Does each port in the back have an independent controller for speed and power? Are some of them shared, if so which ones?

3) I don't plan to run with 2 external drives but for the future, are there any other suggested fixes? Moving ports? Replace with a better quality thunderbolt cable? Powered hub?

Do the tbolt drives have a separate "DC in" port for an external power supply?
Or... are they "bus power only" ?

I have the JEYI TB enclosures which are only bus powered only. I don't know if there's any TB cables that have a split between the power and data.
