Hi everyone,

I've recently moved to a new country and I've been looking into finally getting a new Mac after 15 years (long, long story, trust me). Now, I'm a bit torn as to which model would work best for me.

I mostly do writing for my job, which naturally means a 13'' inch Air (or even Neo) would be just fine. Now, I do some photo and video editing as a hobby, in a non serious capacity at least for now, but I'd love to get more into it as time permits.

Would an Air be the sweet spot for me when it comes to performance seeing as I don't need all the horsepower of a pro since I don't dabble into coding or any super high demanding stuff and just get a bit of extra RAM on a M5 air? As much as I love the pro's screen and extra ports it seems like it'd be a bit of a waste of money — especially with my country's 22% VAT and having to buy a charger separately due to EU rules.

Thanks in advance, hope you all have a great day!

Air for sure. The pro won't benefit most people. I used to run Houdini, Final Cut, Logic, Affinity Suite, Substance Suite, Unity, and more on my Air just fine. They're so nice and light and thin.

Go look at both screens.

If you work with, or ever want to work with hdr content the pro screen can do that. The air can’t.

An M5 Air is very powerful.
You can very easily attach a display which will add much comfort and productivity.

For years, I have used my MacBook with a docking station that provides power, video, keyboard/mouse and so forth. Absolutely zero compromise. I keep the lid open to help cool the laptop and access the TouchID button.

The air is more than enough laptop for 99% of people whether they will admit it or not. Especially the M5, it has PLENTY of horsepower
