A SoC can never be too fast. Too expansive but I doubt it matters much for Apple to use M5 instead of M4. Who would buy a new M1 iPad today when Macs are at M4/M5? What would be the saving with M1 instead of M5?$50-$100?

It's funny to me that they prioritize the machine that needs it least.

But it's because of everyone in this forum that apple sells more iPad pros than they do Macs. Me included. Although I just bought my M4, can't imagine I will need a m5.

If Adobe brought some of their beefier apps over (Premiere, Illustrator, After Effects), I could switch to iPad only. It's powerful enough and runs the same chip as a Mac, so shouldn't be hard. Do it Adobe.

I have an M1 12.9” iPad Pro with 16GB memory. It has kept up pretty well but does probably need a new battery.

I’m holding out for the M6 because it will be 2nm which means better battery life and performance and by then I’m hoping 16GB memory will be standard on the Pro so I won’t need to upgrade to a larger SSD. With the iPad becoming more Mac-like when it comes to multitasking, I want at least 16GB. I want to move down to the 11” size, and get the Apple Magic Keyboard for it. With the way the iPad is progressing, I’m thinking I could probably do the most of the emergency work I may need to do when traveling from an iPad Pro, even if it’s less than ideal and more time consuming. And it’s a much better travel device for consuming content, easier to curl up with and more compact.

Think the change will be the M5 chip along with 12GB RAM for 256 GB and 512 GB or maybe even 16GB RAM for all the models. Other than this it should be exactly the same as the M4 Pro.

All I need is a proper Wifi7 implementation with all 3 bands and 320 MHz channel bandwidth in the 6 GHz band and 160 MHz in 5 GHz.

So Apple are releasing a new ‘mac’ chip, the M5 on an iPad Pro first (like they did with M4) and are also going to release a Macbook with an A18 Pro ‘iPhone’ chip soon. I love this from Apple.

iPadOS, including stock apps, is not even close to be ready to use the M5’s capacity/performance

I want one so bad, but I hardly have a use case for it, besides watching stuff in planes/on holiday and running it as a Roon remote.

I've got an M1 11" Pro cellular and the only problem is the battery life and the smallish screen, runs perfectly for the rest.

at this point iPads and Mac’s need to be every 2 years for upgrades. These chips are so efficient and ahead of anyone by far
I have a feeling the rapid pace of chip releases has also to do with TSMC’s rapid pace of producing next gen. And since Apple is their biggest customer/partner representing about 25% of revenue, Apple needs to buy these chips as they are made. Its a symbiotic relationship at this point as Apple really has no real backup for chip production yet that can scale 3nm like TSMC.

Apple is surprisingly aggressive about keeping the iPad Pro spec’d up, considering it isn’t a high-volume seller for them, and they have a tendency to neglect Pro lines that aren’t big sellers (cough, Mac Pro, cough).
where on earth do you get the idea that the iPad Pro isn’t a big seller?
last year they sold 10 million OLED iPad pros, and that was only with it being on sale from May to December
