If you have an M4 iPad Pro, there's no reason to upgrade, because all you'll get is a modest performance boost. For those with an older iPad Pro or who are thinking about getting an iPad to replace a Mac, the M5 iPad Pro is going to be able to do almost anything.

It still amazes me that people are replacing a desktop/laptop with an iPad. I could never consider this. But I guess if you only consume content, then it might be right for you.

I believe the officially approved description for those who ask, "Has the Apple lost its shine," is, "The M5 iPad Pro is more evolutionary than revolutionary."

At this stage of product maturity, Apple is doing yearly updates for those with years-old machines. It is a continually overlapping pathway.

If anyone upgrades and has both I'd appreciate it if you could test the speakers to see if there's ANY improvement.

Don't @ me with hate, I was dissatisfied enough to keep my old M1. But I would appreciate some impressions (I know they didn't say anything, but you never know...)

What about if your m4 is 8gb and you’re not a heavy user? Is 8gb of ram still fine?
In my experience I'd say no. I've run into problems with simple photo editing using multiple layers on my M1 iPad Pro, that I haven't on my M1 Pro MacBook with 16GB of Ram. I've even had the iPad lock up. Going up to 12GB on the iPhone has been hugely noticeable when multitasking.

Will take delivery of my new 11" M5 model tomorrow. :D

Today I bought a 11” M4 at discount … underwhelming update I would say. They should have added at least a new camera and 16 GB of RAM in every model to be more attractive.

I'm lucky I good a good deal on my 8GB M4. That is going to obsolete this expensive device FAST. I panicked when I learned I couldn't open or save files on it with all that power that were no problem on my older M2 16GB model. I personally think it is foolish thinking the older 8GB modes are good deal if you can save a couple of bucks. Don't do it.

If you do. not need the additional memory of the M5. models, that automatically puts you into the iPad Air camp. Get that instead and save big!

Indeed. People need to put the M5 in the iPad in perspective, it still only has 75% of the memory bandwidth of the M1 Pro chip in a MacBook, and in terms of performance will throttle.

I'm not so sure, as well as the extra 4GB of Ram:

Significantly increased memory bandwidth
Faster SSD read / write speeds (doubled in some cases)
30% GPU performance
Fast Charging finally!
Improved Wifi (and cellular) performance.

I could've gotten an M4 model for £100 less on discount, honestly didn't seem worth it, given this will be more future proof.

I do nothing with my M1 iPad Pro that requires a new chip. Probably I should get the battery replaced before apple considers the device obsolete but I assume that still will be a couple of years down the road. Everything else is just them introducing stuff like Liquid Glass that artificially lowers the performance.
Are you sure they can service the battery on an M1 PRO ?

From my experience getting Apple to service a battery in an iPad is like pulling teeth. They’ll swap it for a refurb one, but only if it fails their battery test, which miraculously always comes out above 80% health, even if coconut battery is saying something like 65% and your iPad has 1.5 hours of usable battery! I swear it’s the same with the watches.

You don't get it. This guy is a true *******. He's a shareholder and would rather people waste their money and get in debt , so he can get 1 more dollar per year

Was curious and had a look, and I'm genuinely confused as to whether it's some sort of high concept parody account, or whether there really is someone who spends all their time coming up with the most sycophantic pro Apple takes imaginable.

Truly bizarre.

I can't figure either . He seems to care though, and people like him do exist, otherwise the world wouldn't be as ****** as it is

I think the M4 and newer are serviceable, but for the M1… good luck in obtaining a refurbished out of warranty
BTW my current M1 still is at 83%
