lol I'll be grabbing an M4 Pro to upgrade my M1 in March or maybe February. And for my use I really don't care if an M5 comes out. Not sure what they can do to it? Give it WiFi 7, faster chip, and.....??? And iPad OS will still be iPad OS.
Indeed, given iPad OS is still iPad OS I'd wonder why even bother upgrading from a M1 to an M4? For the thinness? Of course if one is well off enough that the cost is the same on what one spends for wine with an average dinner then heck why not 🔥💰

My interest in this, is will Apple be flipping the M5 intro to the reverse of what the M4 intro was. Instead of iPad Pro first, do we see M5 Max & Ultra in new Mac Studios in June or July (at WWDC)?

Otherwise, for those complaining, I would love to see what would happen here if Apple said, we aren't changing anything in the iPad Pro for another two years.

there's no way we'll be lucky enough to get M5 studios... we're gonna get bare minimum M4 chip updates after waiting years... just like they've done with so many other devices... and then the'll put out an m5 mini that makes it look ****** in the fall

I for one can't wait for the M5 to be released so I can snag a new (but old stock) M4 at a steep discount. I wanted to pick up an old M2 iPad Pro when the M4 came out but the 11" was an LCD and basically no different than the M2 Air except for ProMotion (don't care about Face ID).

Hopefully the 11" M4 iPad Pro will hit $600 or less when the M5 is released considering they were as low as $850 during Black Friday.

I would like to update my 2018 iPP but the new tandem OLED ruins my eyes :( May be an iPadless future for me.

I would really love thunderbolt 5 support so you can plug an iPad into two external displays via one cable/dock and then give iPad the ability to output to multiple monitors (with something better than stage manager).

As we all know it's mostly not hardware at this point it's mostly software upgrades.

Also, it's ridiculous that Google websites (namely docs and sheets) work so poorly on iPad OS in Safari (especially trackpad support). Not fully desktop class as advertised. And the native google apps just suck.

If they do this I can probably replace my Mac setup at work with just an iPad Pro for everything except Final Cut at this point.

Picking this of similar posts to ask: why? Not criticizing, genuinely curious what about the iPad appeals to you so much more than the Mac.

I suppose it depends on the kind of work / leisure you do on it, but for me the Mac is better in every sense except extreme portability. As you say, the software hinders so much, and at this point there seems so little reason for it.

So is it touch that is the appeal, or what is it that makes you want to replace a presumably stationary Mac setup with an iPad?

That’s where I’m leaning. It’s still on sale right now but I think I want to hold until the M5 to get the M4.

I don’t understand this kind of comments. The iPad schedule is not regular, like the iPhone’s. Late 2025 is not obvious.
It states that the manufacturing will start in late 2025. Including stocking and shipment for entire launch window it puts the actual launch to Q1 2026 - which is expected.

The article states planned and normal milestones of a future product. Offers little to no additional value to being a 'rumor', just stating the obvious.

But offers click potential.

Apple's decision to forgo TSMC's more advanced 2nm process for the M5 chip is believed to be due to cost considerations.

Believed by whom? If Apple is starting manufacturing of the iPad in H225 with M5 then the M5 itself has to enter production before that and N2 isn't going to be available until late 2025. No one else is rumored to release products on N2 that early or even in early 2026. Given Apple's penchant for using TSMC's latest and greatest (and paying a lot for the privilege to be first), it's more likely that the node simply isn't ready for high volume manufacturing for a late 2025 product.

Kuo did not state that the iPad Pro will be manufacturing in late 2025, just the second half of 2025 and he is actually a little vague here where he states that Apple is expected to get a big bump from products released in 2H25, but doesn't specify which products he expects those to be. So it's not clear exactly when the iPad Pro will be manufactured/released. Macrumors is assuming iPad Pro release in late 2025 and I believe there was an earlier rumor to support that but technically Kuo didn't say that explicitly.

This is the exact quote:

3. The iPad Pro equipped with the M5 processor is expected to enter mass production in 2H25. The company’s business momentum in 2H25 is anticipated to benefit significantly from Apple’s new product launches.

That the iPad Pro is among the products expected to be released in 2H25 is a reasonable interpretation of what Kuo said, though it isn't necessarily so. So yeah it could still launch early 2026.

Logically, this just reaffirms there is no need to update the Air to M3 next Spring. 2025 for an updated iPad Air makes much more sense and aligns with the usual release schedule for Airs.

Two things I want for an iPad Pro upgrade:

Actual multi monitor support, M4 already supports up to 3 but we all know that’s not going to happen, Apple will force you to upgrade

Secondly, base 16GB of memory so we don’t have to pay way more than even a freaking MacBook Pro to get this. m4 base should already be 16 gigs, Apple crippled the iPad on purpose

This is so effing stupid. An iPad never needs a chip like this. Meanwhile they won't bring the M5 to the Mac for months afterwards. I don't get it.

This isn't the reason. 2 nm isn't going to be ready in time considering the lead time and volume needed to produce chips for Apple's fall 2025 releases (including A19 chips for the iPhone). N3P is a safe bet and N2 will show up in Apple products in 2026.
