I can't believe this – I just got an M4 one!
Not a big deal. Spring 2026 is about 5 months away. So, you are roughly in the middle of an annual processor update cycle. Enjoy your new computer and don’t worry about it.

Besides, there are tens of thousands of college students that bought M4 MBAs with Fall back to school discounts, which happen every year....so, you are not alone.....just part of the regular buying cycle.

I think they gonna skip M5 Pro/Max to M6 Pro/Max for a whole new MBP in 2026. Otherwise, they have to update twice within one year just like they did before.

For those waiting for the 2nm M6 processor be prepared for hefty cost increases to the new modelled MacBooks. As TSMC have substantially increased costs per 2nm wafers.
yep. It will be interesting to see how much Apples eats vs passes on. I'll be about due for an upgrade in 2027 and I'll have a lot of options to weigh including both the new and awesome models as well as the still pretty darn good models from way back in 2026 at discount prices.

I could be wrong, but I get the impression that one of the biggest markets for iMacs are in businesses for uses like at why dentist's office that uses them. They like the simplicity, but otherwise their needs are modest. Clearly that's not the only category of buyers but the others may not amount to enough to warrant higher end iMacs. Just my guess.
The 27" iMacs were seen a lot in the graphic arts industry. Graphic designers, prepress, smaller video studios, photographers, etc. A lot of them were in schools and universities too, mostly centered around graphics programs. You could get a truly nice computer for those less-intensive graphics tasks and it came with a big beautiful 5k display built right in. All for the price of what Apple charges for just the monitor by itself now. It was arguably the most value for the price in any Mac, and was popular for anyone who needed a high-end monitor but wasn't working on intensive 3D or super high-res video workflows.

Every time I see an article with one of Apple's MacBook press photos, I'm reminded how embarrassed even they are by the notch, as almost all their promo photos show the MacBook Air/Pro with a dark full-screen that obscures the notch. Call me suspicious, but this has to be intentional.

Apple, why are you selling products you're embarrassed to fully disclose? Why should we be forking money over for this smoke-and-mirrors game?

I spend a lot of time on my MacBook air and I almost never even notice the notch. It's mostly just one of many things in the menu bar for me. I suppose it will be nice when gone someday but at least it's better than having a huge bezel to hold the camera.

Because some people still need to be able to buy a machine and can't wait a year, but don't want to be stuck paying full price for obsolete hardware? Changing out an M-series chip it relatively trivial, since most everything is now integrated into the package.
Is it really obsolete if they need it? Let alone being less than a year old?

I am going to strongly consider the M5 Max Mac Studio with new display if the display delivers. I am getting RAM/storage constrained on my M2 Max, which is not otherwise showing its age at all...so I may just take the jump now.

As for the MacBook Pros, waiting for redesign.
For my work I got an M4 Mac Studio as an addition to my M1 Mac Studio and am blown away with it. So with an additional 30% more GPU power, I will definitely be picking up an M5 Studio as well. I have been trying to get away from Windows as much as I can especially for rendering and little by little with these new machines I can slowly start moving away from those altogether.

M5 chip is not a revolution… probably the only change on the Mac mini of course (still a great mac) but for the MacBook Air well I think it’s getting worse and worse… While the MacBook Pro innovates in early 2023, late 2023, late 2024, now and on late 2026… The MacBook Air looks still the same as the M2 !! Only 2 major changes = base 16gb of ram and better performances…

I don't get this criticism of the MBA. The current design was released in the summer of 2022, so it won't even be 4 years old in Spring 2026. I think the 2010 design lasted until 2017. This is a high volume everyday laptop for the masses. It isn't supposed to be redesigned every year.

Besides, every time Apple does a redesign, the price goes up a couple of hundred dollars to cover the retooling cost, then drifts back down to the magical $999 after a couple of years of production.

Is it only me who think Apple is slow and lazy? When having full control (expect manufacturing), I expected that Apple would update all Mx products at once when a new generation come. M5 Air, mini, iMac, MBP, iPad Pro should all have been released this week. I could understand the Mx Pro and Max products are shifted somewhat but not 1/2 year. It's a $3T company with, in comparison, a very small product range.

Really wish they would do iMac and put in a 27inch display. I get it people are always saying "get a Mini and get whatever display you like". But the whole iMac setup is just so clean.
I would've preferred iMac 32" 6K a early as 2021... but we need to have the panel parts price to drop to ~$1k

idk for me I don't even believe we need a new generation of Mx chips every year. I'd rather the generational jump be larger and more substantial, but obviously they need to continue driving sales. At least to me, it makes sense for iPhones and iPads, but Macs being computers after all, people don't need to upgrade every year.

Indeed.
Even though I am used to the notch on my company provided NotchMacBook Pro, and use a dark background to mask it as much as I can, I sometimes get confronted with it and always gasp in disbelief that leadership at Apple had agreed to this… and the fact that it’s a freaking fat laptop.

I sometimes look at my old 15” 2019 MacBook Pro and ask myself why have we gone backwards in design?

Is this what people mean by “Mark Gurman has a high accuracy rate when it comes to rumors”, this is really the safest rumor to spread since we ALL know this will happen… I miss the times when this site had actual interesting news instead of all these clickbait titles and driving engagement type of posts.

No new Studio Display, no deal. I’m still on my 27 inch iMac from 2015. I’m not downgrading to a 24 inch and I’m not buying a 4 year old display at full price.
