M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro: What to Expect

MacBooks spend most of their time waiting for input from users. There is really no productivity reason to wait for the M6 machines. One exception may be for those who produce and render video. Even then, producing and rendering on a notebook may not be the best, except for short-duration projects. If you just like the bragging rights of having a new machine, go for it. I work in publishing and am writing this on my daily-use nine-year-old MacBook Pro. I plan to purchase a new machine this year.

Yeah, exactly. By this person’s same logic, cars spend most of their time not being driven, so you shouldn’t care about having a fast one. I’m trying not to be a smartass, but I work in animation and video production, and this is a very myopic stance this person seems to be taking.

I’m sure your laptop screen is pristine and has never had a fingerprint on it. But even without a touchscreen, mine is covered with fingerprints from counting things in images or measuring or covering elements or whatever.

I had a Windows laptop with a touchscreen, and every time I tried to do something, it would pop up a menu or open something or do something I didn’t want. I disabled that touchscreen with a system .INI file setting IIRC.

I totally get it. I polish mine nearly every day because I’m the type of guy who can't stand a single dot on the display. I use an iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard for programming after work quite a bit, and it always feels awkward to reach out and tap the screen when both my hands are already on the keys. I just don't do it unless I absolutely have to.

For that reason—and the performance/RAM bump—the M5 Pro will definitely be my next machine. I’m just not interested in the touchscreen at all, but as they say, to each their own!
