Hey all,

Quick question for the early M5 Pro/Max owners: Are you noticing any coil whine or electronic "hissing" when running local AI models?

I’m sensitive to high-frequency noise and my previous M-series Mac would "sing" every time I generated code locally.
Given the 4x jump in AI performance Apple is claiming for the M5, I'm worried the power draw might make the whine worse.

Best,

Andreas

I’ve run LLMs on my M1 Max MacBook Pro 16” and get coil whine. I assume it’s a common thing on the entire MacBook Pro lineup and nothing to worry about. Just put some music on.

Edit: so to answer your question a couple of reviewers noticed coil whine when running LLM tasks, so I’d say yes it’s still probably there.
