GPU core count increasing from 10 to 12 (in the MBP).

Memory bandwidth increasing from 153 GB/s to 200 GB/s.

Better DX12 game performance running Crossover under MacOS Golden Gate.

Mac version of Control Resonant drops late this year / early next year.

All of that sounds pretty good.

Will that 20% increase in cores give a 20% increase in performance?
Core count + bandwidth increase should bump MacBook Pro real frame rates up that much.

Also Metal 4 / GPTK 4 fake frame rates are already higher (on M3-M5 chips) in some Crossover games under Golden Gate.

I am still baffled how Apple can do frame generation from low framerates and it not trash input latency.

Doesn't matter until developers start making games for macOS. We have a thread from 5ish years ago about how all M1 macs will be able to run AAA games now. But even if the hardware is capable, the software and support isn't. M6 isn't going to change that any.

MBP M6 will be good for gaming. And MacOS Control Resonant will follow closely after the introduction of M6.

Apple has many smart people working on AS GPU development, Metal FX, and GPTK.

Been that way for years now. It’s not a secret.

One of the games I'd like to play on my MBP is Cities Skylines 2. About a week or two ago, it looks like someone went at it with an Ai hammer and managed to get it working with Wine. I tried following the steps and got it working on my mac, too. I played it for a few minutes, and it seemed okay enough. But you know what else I saw? A little popup message letting me know that it relies on technology that won't be supported in a future version of macOS.

So, like, what's the point?

That is the state of macOS gaming. What works on one version, probably won't work on the next version.

Just saw the desktop announcements.

The new Mac Mini M6 GPU includes “updates to the shader core architecture, Dynamic Caching, and hardware-accelerated ray tracing.”

Plus the additional GPU cores and a “newly optimized thermal design” for the Mini.

The M6 mini will be available Sep 22nd in the U.S.
