Apple is readying new iMac models with an upgraded chip and new color options, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman says the new version is likely to be an updated 24-inch model with an M6 chip, replacing the existing M4 model that arrived in October 2024.

New colors are also said to be on the menu, though Gurman does not say what they are. The current iMac comes in seven colors, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver.

Otherwise, no major design changes are expected. Apple is reportedly developing a 24-inch iMac with an OLED display, but this won't arrive for several years.

"All signs point to the M6 models being close to launch," says Gurman, with the new models expected to arrive before the end of the year.

Curious to see new colours. Maybe some colours similar to whats available on the MacBook Neo? But, please, put the Apple logo back on the chin.

The iMac has fans. Why not make the Pro chip available as an option?

Harvest Gold and Avocado Green for that retro 1970's look? Orange Julius Orange for the 1980's feel? Where does Apple come up with these colors and do they really expect enough people to want them for it to be worth the manufacturing and inventory hassle? 🤮

Unfortunately Apple already used shag-carpet orange on the iPhone Pro.

Several years?

To simply slap an OLED display on the thing?

YEARS?
Current offerings of oled on the market do indeed have some burn in issues.... These will eventually be solved entirely, in a few years.. sound fair? Computer displays are harder to crack at this then TV's and smartphones where whole displays keep changing content..

The previous generation of iMac looked fantastic and had a great range of ports etc, making them ideal for professionals who didn't necessarily need the raw power of the Mac Pro/Mac Studio.

This current generation just looks bizarre and - whilst the M4 / M6 SOCs are superb - there'll be people who could really use the Pro versions.

It’s much cleaner and «chic» , imho, without the Apple logo on the front - The shape and Colors of the iMac are superb, with or without logo. No risk to think it’s a knock-off brand.

Whilst OLED TVs are great, I really wish the industry was moving faster towards microLED (not the same as microRGB).

Always wanted an Imac, but the pricepoint they are going for is the killer for me.
I got a 27 inch iMac 10 years ago. My first Apple product. Still have it and it's running good. To me these new 24 inch iMac's look so cheap and the price is so high. I replaced the iMac with a Mac mini M4 for my main computer last December when the price was low, well lower than it is today.

I haven't understood the iMac for a long time now.

I think I bought mine back in 2008 or 2010; the price was reasonable (€899; original price: €999).
Since then, it's gotten more and more expensive.

As of today, you'd have to pay €1,799 in Europe!
That’s no longer a computer you’d give your child as their first one.

Just to remind you:
Meanwhile, the MacBook Air has gotten cheaper and better over time!

I also think that people don’t buy the iMac very often anymore because of that price.

Same here on the screen size. Plus my eyesight is going, I need a bigger screen. 🤣

Same.

People scoff at my usage of a 4k 65 inch OLED that is 6 to 8 feet away from me…

But it’s bloody fabulous and my eyes love the experience.

Who knows maybe everybody detracting from my preference here is simply young and hasn’t experienced aging eyes yet?

I'll never buy 24" iMac ever, no matter what specs or price. I'll buy a 27" or 32" in a heartbeat.
Exactly. The screen is too small. I knew a lot of people with 27" iMacs. Some are still holding onto them, even because they are outdated. Many of those people went with a Mac mini and a non Apple display, meaning Apple lost potential revenue because they replaced their 27" iMacs with a Mac mini and non Apple display, since Apple is nuts with the pricing on those, pretty much what a whole 27" iMac use to cost.
