I edit corporate video, and I'm sincerely hoping that in ten years I'll be working on Apple's new 40in Hi Def Touch Screen Mac Pro ACD. It would be the greatest innovation in editing since the move away from film to digital suite...

Porn will be in 3D and involve a Wii controller and some sort of physical feedback. Internet geeks will count this pseudo-sexual interaction as "sexual experience", even though, deep down, they know they're still virgins.

Let's see...

256-bit CPU w/64-cores @ 200ghz each
64-terabytes of RAM
500-terabyte flash drive
30" 3D LCD

And to counteract over 15 years of metals and plastic, Apple will be the first to go with mahogany, teak and other fine wood enclosures designed by Bombay Company.

There still won't be an update for AOL Instant Messenger for mac, Safari will be a bit snappier on this machine, and of course people will still be "disappointed" in Apple keynotes :) Also no PPC support ;)

Nevah! PPC will always be around.:D

Nah, it's on it's way out in a few years, but I can't help wondering if Apple will ever switch processors again. AMD, anyone?

AMD, anyone?
Not really an architecture switch that one though, just a manufacturer nudge. You could easily run OSX on an AMD processor now if you built yourself a Hackintosh (although that would be naughty and nobody should ever think of doing it, right kids?)

I love threads like this, as I am one of those people who love to think about what the future may hold. It is funny that on Star Trek they had multi-touch and a completely voice controlled computer system. TNG of course was supposed to take place from 2364-2370 and here we are talking about the chance for very similar technology by 2018 and certainly (hopefully) by 2028.

I would like to believe that Apple as a company remains on the top of innovation as it has over the last 32 years and will continue to amaze us. If Apple can market a full multi-touch handheld device that is thinner than the current iphone and many many times more powerful within the next ten years I will not be surprised.

Where Steve Jobs stands in the next 10 years as yet to be seen. I hope that he is still in good health and participating in the company, but if not hopefully his chosen chief is a good one with the passion that Steve Jobs has for quality and innovative technology.

TBH, I don't think I'm going to like what the future holds for Apple. Multi-Touch? No thanks, I'll keep my keyboard and mouse.

I'll bet the transition from the horse and cart to the automibile was real rough on you too. :D

I think that the whole multi-touch thing is spot-on, to be honest. Apple is certainly heading in that direction now!

But... what about after multi-touch? Brain wave control? Thought-generated iTunes?

The thing is, no one wants to lift their arms up to an iMac screen to use the computer, your shoulders would begin to get tired after a while. I also don't want to be hunched over on a tablet. Keyboards are hard enough for my back to use just for the short time I use them, why would I want to do all my computing in that same position?

I don't see what the fascination with touch screens is. I've played with an iPhone before. Fun to use for about 15 minutes before I realized I was much more comfortable with a phone that has buttons. But that's more then likely just me.

True, I never really thought of it like that.

I wonder if it would be better to have the iMac closer to you?

OMG.. not typing in purple? WTF? :D

When they come out with a practical hologram display-one you can move around and resize and set at any angle- then I can see Multi-Touch becoming more practical then a mouse and keyboard. Until then, it's just a gimmick, IMHO.

Access and manage your email, contacts, calendar, photos, and files at me.com. All with amazing applications that are so feature-rich and easy to use, you may end up preferring them to your regular desktop applications.

I'm sure they won't be bad, but saying you'll prefer them to desktop applications is just marketing speak, pure and simple.

I think we're going to see the complete iLife suite ported to MobileMe very soon - possibly within the next two years. iPhoto. iTunes. iWork. iEverything.

What's the point? What does it gain you over the current software?

There will definitely be a mainstream in touch screens on all the macs, but otherwise, I don't know.

honestly I think "multi-touch screens" will be like drawing tablets, just a rectangle piece of nothing, at first, then it will be like a dual display, mirroring what is on the desktop, so you can use both hands, and even have like two mice, one left handed one right, with the touch keyboard on just a tap of a non-tactile button! ZOMG

ps cassie, I still have a PPC iBook, so I know why you love it, but dear get an intel mac, you know the saying, once you go intel mac, you don't go back..

We will be remembering the days back in '08 when computers like the MacBook Air were unnecessarily large and thick, and how phones like the iPhone 3G were dumbed down and had practically no features like the phones of '18. Lets place a bet now, who will be the one to resurrect this thread in 10 years? I'll gladly add it to my iCal, but I have a feeling that iCal will be extinct in 10 years.
