I wanted a second cable modem in the house to run off of our Charter ISP.

Basically, long story short is that my parents say I use the internet too much at night blah blah blah so they disconnect it at night. So I just bought a Motorola Surfboard cable modem and I want to clone the MAC address from my downstairs cable modem so that when my parents pull the plug on the downstairs modem, I can just plug in mine upstairs and connect to the internet. (I have a cable plug and whatnot upstairs to connect to my modem so that is not an issue)

Please help me!!!

You really think this is the best way to proceed? Your parents will be disappointed in you, and probably take away further privileges.

Plus this is completely non-topical. Try ##networking on irc.freenode.net or something...

I suggest discussing it with your parents. Communication is key to a healthy relationship.

If you are under 18 and under your parents roof, then you have no say in the matter.

BUT

As angelwatt stated "I suggest discussing it with your parents. Communication is key to a healthy relationship." I couldn't agree more. Communication and honest are the only way to go.

If they don't want you using their internet access, then offer to pay them in some way for the service in lieu of freedom of time spent surfing. Make it a barter system, you give them something and in return they may give you freedom with internet access.

Whatever their decision is, respect it.
