I bought a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD along with Sabrent Ultra Slim USB 3.0 to 2.5-Inch SATA External Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure. My mac air 2011 (only has USB 2.0) can't read the drive. Will a simple USB 2.0 - Male A to Male A work as Sabrent says it is USB 2.0 down compatible? If not can anyone recommend an enclosure which works?

Thank You.. I realized I have to initialize and format the SSD before use :)

Seems like a waste of 500GB SSD if you can't use USB 3. Too bad thunderbolt enclosures are expensive.

The main benefit of SSD is lower access times, which you get with USB 2.0 just as much as USB 3.0.

I never used 3.0, but 2.0 looks fast enough for me with SSD. I primarily wanted a reliable back up for my images(raw) so opted for SSD.

I see. You should also look into online backup if it's important enough.
