Problem: Mac won't start up...

- I've tried all the on/off button time sequences the web recomnends and it still won't start up...Black Screen
- power cord shows green light.
- sometimes the fan will come on.. ?

Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

Try plugging in an external display - it could be a dead backlight in the LCD; the Mac itself may be running just fine otherwise.

HI throAU.... Thanks for the advice.

I'm in a martial law lockdown in the Philippines with no external display.

Any other thoughts?

I'm thinking of opening up the back and just disconnect the battery. Do you know if I can do that if I unplugged it.....knowing it might still be on.?

I wouldn't do that to be honest, I don't see what it would achieve. I mean I don't think it will hurt anything, I just don't think you'll fix the problem with that.

You don't have a HDMI cable and/or a TV with HDMI input? You may be able to see if it is "alive" by looking for it via bluetooth (if that was turned on) using your phone or some other bluetooth device.

Shine a flashlight (even a phone flash light) close to the screen and move it around - you should be able to see if the LCD panel is working even if the backlight is failed.
