This is probably a stupid question but I want to make sure I understand. Can a Mac read a PDF file created in any PDF maker?

OS X has build in support for PDF files and the default file viewer application, Preview, can read and manipulate PDF files. That said, some PDF files (especially one with forms) use some advanced elements which can be only used from Adobe Reader or similar software.

For a normal PDF though, OS X native support ist excellent.
