I have a sony xr500v, I recently pulled the files off the camera onto a hard drive to free up space. I have done this before with no problems. Then I tried copying the new files into a different folder with older files, but somehow lost all the .cpi files from the newer transfer. Now final cut will not recognize the new files in log and transfer... Is there anyway to get these back? I tried using data rescue 3 but it did not find them. They are not in the trash. I have no idea where they could be but need to get them back.
Thanks

They were overwritten during the copy process thus they are not recoverable with conventional means like Data Rescue. Maybe a data recovery firm could help, but that would be really expensive.

Is there any other way you can use the video files without those .cpi files?

Have you tried converting the videos via MPEG Streamclip to something that can can be edited with Final Cut without the need of Log & Transfer and the .cpi files?

The weird thing is that they were not the same file names, the files I copied over were around 02665.cpi-02998.cpi and the ones in the folder I had were all below those, <02664.cpi. So I thought they would have just transferred in. I have Toast as well as mpeg streamclip, and I have tried converting them. But every set up ive tried has turned out horrible. They look half as good as when I do log and transfer.
FCP will come up with an error if the cpi files are not there, just the mts wont cut it I guess.
