A few years ago I found a demo version of a program for the Mac that let you create your own software instruments from samples. I no longer have it - and can't remember the name of it.

Are there any programs out there that let you do this? (I know about the GarageBand Musical Typing sampler 'trick' but was looking for something a little more polished.)

    Thanks!

What type of instrument are you wanting to create and in what DAW(s) will it be used?

I'd like to mainly recreate drum kits from some old Yamaha units (RX120, TG33, V50) and possibly sample some sounds from the synths themselves.

Again...what DAW are you using? Is it more than one?

In that case we're probably not talking about anything elaborate such as Native Instruments "Kontakt".

Take a look around at the KVR site. There are many free plugins there including some with which you can "build" a new instrument.
