I tried this already. Made no difference.
It seems that you need to download an app from iTunes before updating to 10.6.6 to get rid of the bug/glitch. I even reinstalled osx 10.6 without erasing the disk then downloading an app and then updating, but it did not work.
Whatever is causing it will only get removed if you erase the disk.

I can recall that this advice was given by some iPhone hackers when installing certain jailbreak apps on iPhone and iPad. When I read the solution, it clicked in my head that this could work.

That is some weird bug. Neither my iMac or my MacBook had this problem. :/

I'm sure that you must have downloaded an app from itunes on each before you upgraded to 10.6.6. That usually kills the bugs.

I had issues, and had to restore my system from a time machine backup. Everything is perfect, except the App Store no longer launches. It won't launch from the dock, finder - nothing happens...

Was the apps store working before you went back in time?

No I didn't. I don't have an iDevice, so I have no reason to download any thing for the App store from there, and I haven't bought a song in 3-4 months now. It just worked right after I updated the OS. But like I said, I used the COMBO update. :/

When the update came out on Jan 6, I updated my two Macs and the app store was working fine on both. Few days later I had to reformat the HD in the MacBook and that was when the connection error started. Mind you, my MacBook Pro was still working perfect.

What I notice from people reporting this issue was that almost everybody who report it had reformatted the HD and installed 10.6 and updated to 10.6.6 without updating iTunes first nor running iTunes before installing the combo update.

I try contacting app store support but they where not helpful at all. I just reformatted again, reinstalled SL, updated iTunes, downloaded an free app, restarted the Mac just to be sure, ran software update and updated to 10.6.6 from there and the app store has been working since then.

That is strange that the App Store is some how connected to iTunes then. I wonder why Apple would do it that way. Yeah I didn't format the drive and reinstalled the update. I was at 10.6.5 and used the COMBO update. For some reason if I'm having any problems with the OS I just run the COMBO update and it fixes it. :/

This is a strange bug indeed. It happened on my MBP after reformatting my SSD and placing an ordinary HDD in instead of the former SSD RAID, except that I got a blank screen instead of a connection error.

I noticed that running iTunes once before going to the App Store solved the issue. Didn't even have to download an app for the iToys or place music into my Library.

And yes, I did use the Combo Update from 10.6.3, downloaded as part of a failed effort to hackintosh my x201.

Maybe you have to agree to iTunes terms and conditions before connecting to the app store. That's the only reason I see for needing to go to iTunes first.

Problem Solved.

I have the same problem in 2 of my machines, I have tried everything but no joy.... then i came to a post that says delete the following files:

/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist

Restart the computer after deleting.

and it Worked !!! both machines now access mac app store with no problems.

Give it a try.

I've tried all the suggestions I've seen listed so far...including reformatting the HD and reinstalling, making sure to download an app in iTunes before updating to 10.6.6. Nothing has worked - the App Store is still incredibly glitchy (won't load half the time, loads really weird the rest of the time...i.e. half the home page is blank, search bar won't work, etc.) Even to get to a half-loaded state takes about three minutes. Something is wrong with the connection but I'm not sure what.

This is a brand new MacBook Air that I just purchased yesterday. My first Mac (I've had an iPhone for a while), but this experience so far is a bit discouraging.

Do you only have problems with the Mac App Store? Do you have any problems surfing the web, or getting e-mail? Are you going though a router?

Mac App Store will not work

Hello All,

I finally got the issue resolved. I have the Mac App Store Working. Here's what I did:

OK, first I reformatted my HD. The original Snow Leopard disc that I have is version 10.6. So once I installed 10.6, I went straight to iTunes, and hit update. That brought iTunes to version 10.1 (this is without updating SL). I opened iTunes, signed in the store and downloaded a free app. After the app download was done, closed iTunes then restarted the computer.

When back from restart, I ran the Software Update (to bring it to 10.6.6) and let it do it's thing. Once the download was complete and installed, I restarted once again (just to be safe). Then I finally clicked the Mac App Store icon and voila! Able to get in without problems!

Hope this helps!

Nope not working for me. :(

Try this..

Have you tried upddating to 10.6.6 first then downloading app from itunes rather than downloading an app first then updating to 10.6.6.
I believe you should do the 10.6 to 10.6.6 first since that update contains the app store and would link to the downloaded app.

Just format HD, install SL and update to 10.6.6 first . You can then update itunes, download a free app, reboot and try the app store. Dont forget to restart in between.
