So ive been using this macbook for almost 6 years now it was doing fine until yesterday it would’nt start. It is a mid 2012 macbook air, hd graphics 4000, 4gb ram.

The power supply still shows a light meaning it does have charge. At one point it decided to boot but it was turning on then turning off imediatly until it decided to turn on for good. i decided to play a game and mid game it just completlh closed. It was connected with an adapter on an external display a usb split with mouse and keyboard and an external hard drive. then after a while i turned it on again but with evrything disconnected and it did turned on and start the os i played the same game and eventually i connected my external hard drive and my mouse, it didnt crashed i eventually went to eat and decided to test by reconnecting evrything even the external display. When i came back from dinner it had closed (no app was running when i leaved for dinner) and woulndt turn on for the whole night. Then i tried it again the following day without anything connected and it did turn on it was a bit slow (the boot up is really fast usually) and eventually it did got on the recover password mode i coudn not get the password to reset because it could not connect with the server so i just reset it and this time it did start i let it open for serval hours amd mothing unusual hapkened when i came back eventually i replugged it to all my things and it did work normally i even rebooted and it did worked fine i also eventually reset its p ram by pressing option command p and r i let it do it 4 times. It worked all night perfectly. So i leave it like that for the day and i just got back from work and it started like normal until In the process of entering my session after the charge bar, it closed again to a complete stop after a few second it did like it would turn back on on its own the fan is running and it gives power to my external drive and keyboard but nothing else happend the screen us not turning on and thes no boot sound i leaved it run for about 15 min then did nothing so i pressed the power button for a few seconds to cose it and it did. I did disconnect all my things exept for the power supply and teies to turn it back on but absolutely nothing happens i tried with no supply nothing happend i replugged it and let it rest for about 20 min nothing still i leat it rest with no supply the retried nothing the retried with the supply in nothing.

Adutional thngs i did

I tried a new power supply while it wasnt working nothing exept the fan

I did update its os while it was working

I did try to twist tre supply wires while it was working nothing unusual happened

While it was working i did try to shake it, close the lid and open nothing bad gappened nothing seemed lose. I did a system report check on the battery plugged and unpluged while fully charged nothing changed and/or out of the ordinary.

Things to keep in mind.

The battery is never being changed ir the laptop open it dosnt smell burnt and isnt unusually hot while its running

Or trying to boot while not working.te battey capacity is very small as the battery is old and wont remain open for more than a minute unplugged if nothing runs. If domething running and its unplugged the screen goes black but if replugged fast enoug will eventually reopen with evrything running as it was exept slow on memory. If tve lid is turn off the laptop moved replugged then the lif reopened it will turn on with evrything running still and smoothly. All this is normal the battery is old. I would appeciate any input on the problem if you have some and ideally a fix solution.

did we reset the pram?
I'm confused on whats going on with the air, so unplug everything, attach power cord and turn on the MBair while pressing command option P R, the MBAir should chime twice instantly
if that occurs, good.
if not LET us know...we can help!

Could be a battery problem. Disconnect the battery from the motherboard, connect a power adapter, don't touch anything and see if it turns on. It will run slow since the battery isn't connected. Try turning it off and on a few times to see if it powers up every time. If yes, sounds like the battery is failing.

Well when i reset the p ram that was when the computer worked perfectly again after i let it rest for the whole night

So weirdly enough i just got home and it is working again it seems that it dosent like to have any acessory plugged on it when it starts

What accessory?
Like i explained earlyer it was connected by thunder boldlt adapterbtoan external display a usb split with mouse and keyboard and sometime a graphic tablet also on a external hard drive wich is
Currently plugged in after the startup without any problem

That would cause the problem too many accessories. just be very careful not to shake the MBAir, that will cause permanent damage.
What OS X is that running?
Mine is El Capitan.

It had this setup for a while and i do not think that shaking it is supposed to have any effect normaly. They are pretty well built and very sturdy hardware in my experiance. I did shake it a bit to test and nothing semed lose of affected it now works with the external drive perfectly like when it worked again for the first time

Do you have a pentalobe screw driver for the MacBook Air?
Those are handy, especially when you get a new battery.
I swap ssds with differnt OS X once in a while.
