I thought the macbook and macbook pro where pretty much the same. But I heard the pro can handle more ram ? Is that true and if so how come ?

Apple has eliminated the macbook and now all the unibody line ups are MacBooks Pro

you can customise how much the macbook pro can handle for more info check this page:

edit: all of the unibodies can handle up to 8 GB ram

They have different logic boards.

Apple has eliminated the macbook and now all the unibody line ups are MacBooks Pro

They haven't eliminated the MacBook, nor have they changed it.
The MacBook has always been the plastic one.
It was only for that short time in the middle that they had the unibody MacBook, then decided to revert to their old naming method - plastic MacBooks, and aluminium MacBook Pros.

So to the OP - yes, the Pro can handle more RAM. Apple says MB can support 4GB and MBP can support 8GB

I'm not so sure. I tried 8GB in my MacBook and it wouldn't boot. May have been a problem with those particular modules, but I didn't try again, I just went for 4GB because that's what Apple says it supports.

The newer ones (after the June 2009 WWDC) support up to 8GB, the ones before that only support 4GB, although I believe some of the MBPs introduced at Macworld January 2009 can unofficially support 6GB.

EDIT: Okay it seems that it wasn't Macworld, but that all unibodies can unofficially support 6.

they have videos on how to upgrade ram and you can also purchase ram from them. Just find your macbook on their site and it will suggest compatible upgrade options.
