What is the model of your MBP?

Can you try an SMC reset?

    SMC reset: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

You may not see any immediate response when you do the SMC reset, unless the battery is charging (and the magsafe connector LED is orange). When you do the SMC reset while the LED is orange, you will see that LED change briefly to green, then back to orange. Even if there is no visible response, just press the keys as listed - one press of all 4 keys together is all that is needed.

What is your battery "health"? You can check in menu under the battery icon - or check in your System Information/System Report/Power tab.
When you look at that battery information, then you can also tell what the Charge Cycles total shows.
