Is there any way I can close my top and just use my cinema screen without the system going to sleep
 
Excuse me... Did i just step into the MBP forum? 😱

Yes! After it's powered and loaded. Close your screen/lid. The MBP will go to sleep mode. Just move your mouse or press the space bar on your keyboard.

Your machine will be back up with the ACD and the system will not recognize your laptop screen as a second monitor.
 
Just curious, doesn't the laptop heat up like crazy when it's shut and running? 😕
Mine sometimes continues running even when shut and you can hear the fan spinning with vengeance. Or is that different from the closed clamshell mode? 🙄

Mine is fine, place it on a laptop is the instant fan machine.
