Mac Book Pro sticking with all video files

Hi Guys.
My mac book pro with 4 GB Ram has been playing and editing all types of video well for 6 months now.
Bus now it is sticking when paying all video files. Quick time movies, FCP editing in the timeline, even flash files and videos played on the parallels system.
Can anyone help?

well it pauses every second or so. In everyting from quicktime files to sequences in FCP.
