mac bootup sound working sometimes and not others

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this? Sometimes when I bootup the chime sounds and other times not. Running tiger osx. Any ideas of why this might happen?

Do you sometimes have the volume turned down or muted before you reboot?

I really don't think so but I guess that must be it.

Either that or if you run headphones and have them unplugged, sometimes it will default to off.

Either way, you should be thankful, because that noise is SOOOOOOO annoying.
