Using the default Mac Calendar app & just upgraded to Ventura. Prior to this, when I would double click on an open spot on the calendar, it would create an appt, then I could start typing the title. With Ventura, it creates the New Event, but doesn't go to the title section like I would expect. I also can't find any key combination that will bring me to the title section. So now, I have to grab the mouse & click on the title, then start to type. If I don't do that, I just get an event titled 'New Event' Anyone know of a way around this, or if I'm doing something wrong. I'm using the exact same method that i've been using since Apple came out with the calendar app.

Thanks in advance.

Hmm. Works for me (yes, I'm on Ventura):

As you can see, I simply double-clicked on the calendar and a New Event was created with the blinking cursor at the start of the event title, waiting for me to overwrite it with my custom title.

EDIT: You must be in "Day" view. It doesn't work the same there as it does in "Month" or "Week" view for some reason. But all you have to do is hit the Tab key to edit the event title.

Thanks for the reply. That's great to see about week view. Indeed, when I try it there, it works perfectly, so that's at least a partial work-around for me.

Interesting that Tab works for you in Day view. When I'm in Day view, I double click to create the event, but when I hit Tab, it goes to the next event chronologically. I wonder if I have some kind of setting checked, although I don't see anything obvious.

Well when I tested, there were no later events. I just tested again by trying to create an event before another event on the calendar, and it behaves exactly as you describe. In that case, you have to first double-click on the new event you just created, then hit the tab key. This is definitely an inconsistent, poor design.

Thanks for confirming. Seems like a weird change, but I'm glad it's not just me. Appreciate the time you put into this.

This thread seems to be the only instance of this issue being addressed anywhere (which I find hard to believe). Just wondering if anyone else had a problem with this and/or if any other fixes had been reported? I constantly double click on calendar to create a new event based on 15 years of habit, and am always cursing the resulting dead keyboard.....

Thanks to all.

You and me both. Always had the ability to double click to create an event in day mode and start typing. When will this be fixed. Super annoying

Double click on Calendar, creates an event and goes to the title as normal. Ventura 13.2.

Still not the way it was. Still requires multiple steps. Click to create appointment. double click to open the title. tab to enter info. Why can't it be returned to the way it was? Doubleclick and start typing.

Same here. Why did they change that ? It's really annoying.
I actually found a workaround from Apple's Calendar User Guide page here https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/calendar/icalwr13-events/11.0/mac/13.0

  • In Day or Week view, drag from the event’s start time to its end time, then enter a title and other event details in the event window. You can also double-click at a time or in the All-Day section at the top, then fill in the event window.

I just tried and it works in Day view. Instead of double-clicking on the day and then move the cursor over to the New Event, just single-click on the starting hour of the event and drag down until the ending hour of the event. When you release the mouse button or trackpad pressure your cursor will automatically be on the New Event field ready to accept your title.

Actually this is not a bad thing. You can create your Event and enter your Event's duration in one go, instead of having to adjust the duration after entering the event title from the default event duration (1 hour in my case) to chunks of 15 minutes.

Hope this helps.

Yep ! Glad I could help. That thing was driving me crazy since it was changed with the move to whatever new MacOS that was. But I will say this very softly so no-one at Apple can her me : in the end it was just a mater of RTFM (read the freaking manual). It was all there 🤣😂🤣

I wouldn't go so far as to say it was just RTFM. Apple did remove some functionality that many people used daily. And while there may have been a specific reason for doing so, it was definitely not communicated at all.

At any rate, thanks for posting you findings. While it will take some time to get used to this new way of doing it, it's still way better than the way I was forced to do it earlier today. Great job!

Great news, this is now completely fixed in MacOS Sonoma! I hated the work around of having to drag to create a new event as it was too hard to do that when you had other events/reminders at the same time. Now just double click like before and start typing! They listened.
