Hi, I’ve found myself in a situation where I need to send off a letter via fax (because the government is so outdated that they do not accept email). So as a result, I will need a solution that allows me to send a fax via my Mac. I do have an HP multifunction printer that does have a fax modem built in, but that's at a location where I don't have landline phone service, so I would have to drag that elsewhere where there is a landline to connect to. I was looking into USB dial-up modems on the internet, but all of them only list Windows compatibility, and I didn't want to risk it buying a modem not knowing whether or not it would work on my Mac even if it was driverless. Anyone know some good modems that work with modern macOS?

Of course, one thing that would be great is if Apple used its Continuity feature to use an iPhone to send a fax message, since you just need a phone line to send a fax. But sadly that does not exist yet.
