Is mac connection (http://www.macconnection.com/) a good site. I was thinkin about getting it from here. I could get a refurb from apple for 999+tax (1069) or from macconnection new for 1149 and 1049 after rebate..

Also is there any downside to not purchasing it from apple?

Not really. MacConnection is a reputable dealer.

If it arrives DOA, you will have to return it to the seller; Apple will not replace it; they will attempt to repair it. 3rd party sellers can be a hassle when it comes to problems.
