This started happening after I had booted GoS (Linux) live CD.

Computer starts up, I get the Apple logo in the middle as usual, then moments later I get a circle with a line through it.

I tried booting with the "option" key and selected the install DVD but I still get the circle with line through it.

The computer was working just fine until I booted the live linux CD.

Tech support says it is a hardware issue and that I should bring it in an apple store.

Here is a pic of what the circle looks like:

It's the circle with line through it but without the apple logo.

If you cannot boot off the live cd (try holding c when starting up) then it's the hardware. The support rep is right.

You should try to boot from OS X disk that came with your computer. The Linux live CD may not be compatible with your computer and is not a good test.
