In the past ive had no trouble inserting a blank cd and having it show up on my desktop so i can copy something onto it. Today I tried to do just that but the blank cd didnt load at all.

I tried using numerous other blank ones butI got the same result. What makes it even more frustrating is the fact that Im having no problem loading any other kind of cds. I tried restarting the computer a few times as suggested but that didnt work.

Does anyone know what might be the problem? Thanks

Generally, you will get better quality responses if you list specifics

What OS are you using - version and update version?
What machine?
What type of CD burner - stock or aftermarket?
Have you recently --- installed software / updated your OS / had a system crash / "cleaned up" your System / had a chum mess around with your system / been kidnapped by extraterrestrials?
Are you sure the CD(s) in question is (are) blank?
Does your CD burner successfully read burned CD-Rs as well as commercial CDs?
Have you already repaired permissions (OSX - Disk Utility) or rebuilt the Desktop (OS9)?

k

had a similar problem with my pb listen first get one of the best cd lens cleaner cd's you can afford and clean your drive !!!

secondly if that does not work reinstall your os as a corrupt file can cause havoc with these things (like mine did)

if these dont work then ur drive is busted get a external one !!

thanks gokhan. ill try your suggestions out. if i reinstall my os will i have to install my music making programs as well or will they stay intact?

well i tried but both methods didnt work for me.

so my question now is does anyone know how much it would be to get it fixed if i took it somewhere?

gokhan did either of those methods work for you when you had this same problem? did you get an external one?

If it's reading CD's OK, it's not as likely to be a lens problem.

You have reinstalled the OS?

Make sure that the appropriate extensions are enables in your System - go to Extensions Manager and turn on CD and burning related extensions if they are off, and reboot. Rebuild the Desktop while you are at it.

It iis likely not cost effective to take it in for repair, as you can buy a new internal DVD burner for around US$100 which will come with burning software.

Thanks Canada

I have reinstalled the OS and made sure that the appropriate extensions are enabled in my System. Should I have it under My Settings, Mac 0S 9.0.2 All or Mac 0S 9.0.2 Base though?

How do I rebuild the Desktop? What exactly does that do?
