    Hello all,
I have recently purchased a G5 and can't get my XM subscriber service to work with it. The XM folks say I need Media Player 10.0, and I can't find that for Mac. You all know what the Windows folks are saying! Any help is greatly appreciated...

Uh oh. I don't know what XM radio is but I do know that Windows Media Player for Mac is only at 9.0 meaning that there is no way of playing 10.0-specific formats on a Mac (or anything other than a Windows machine).

Sorry, it looks like you may have found one of the very few drawbacks of the Mac - the fact it doesn't have the latest WMP from Microsoft. :(

There potentially could be a work-around but I don't know of any, sorry. What is XM radio? Could you use RealPlayer or maybe VLC? Or does it really have to be WMP 10.0?

XM Radio is satellite radio. So far it's only available in the US. Subscriber's can also listen to it online. Anyway, WMP 10 isn't necessary to listen to XM online. It works just great on my PowerBook with WMP 9. In fact, there's even a Dashboard Widget for listening to it without having to open a web browser.

I'm not sure what to tell you other than to keep trying, because it definitely works just fine with Macs, and XM even says so on their website. See here: . Ignore the requirement for 64 MB video RAM. Of course video RAM is pretty much irrelevant when talking about listening to an audio stream.

AOL has its AOL Radio player for the Mac which includes XM. However, it is still in beta.
