The MM is not suitable when alot of scrolling has to be done (but I know that's been well covered here). So I'd appreciate recommendations for a mouse the I can use in XP and OSX, under $100 or so & not wireless – hate having to deal with batteries.

I always hear Logitech have the best stuff.
