Mac Hard Drive Icon??

I have the Mac Hard drive Icon on my desktop how do I get it off the desktop. I just do not want to see it so easily???

I am run 10.5.8

Click on Finder on the top left corner of your screen next to the black apple icon.

Finder->Preferences->General
Uncheck Hard disks

Choose to uncheck hard disk. Poof. Gone.

Do you guys know how come OSX lines up the desktop icons on the Right side and Windows does it on the Left side?

I think MS was afraid it might give the appearance that they were copying Apple.
