UPS = APC SU1400NET (purchased used, no interface cables)
Mac = iMac G5 Mac OS X 10.5.6

I want to connect the UPS to my Mac for monitoring and shut-down. The UPS has a DB9 "computer interface connector". My Mac has USB. Is there a cable to make the hardware interface?

I understand that my Mac OS will recognize the UPS, once it is connected, and will show some UPS settings available.

But first I have to connect it!

APC Tech Support was not much help.

Thanks - Jon

You'll need a USB to serial port adapter similar to
https://serialio.com//store/product...id=30&osCsid=9f8e5b7968b2c860e4bd1c52747cc16c

This assumes you have the right driver for OS X to talk to the UPS (it appears that's what your understanding already is). If you need drivers, get from http://serialio.com/products/adaptors/usb_serial.php

If those fail, Apple has a driver at
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/drivers/pl2303usbtoserialdriver.html for a PL2303 based device which may work. Good luck!
