For a fun time: Install MacKeeper.
Now, scan your system with Malwarebytes.
Notice how Malwarebytes reports that as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program).
And Malwarebytes will remove that for you.

Better yet, continue as you were, without wondering if MacKeeper is, somehow, a good choice for anything.
Users STILL will find it occasionally, clinging desperately to some other app that you might download somewhere.
Is MacKeeper a better app after all these years? Don't know. Don't care. If Malwarebytes is going to point it out, every time I scan a customer's Mac, then I suggest that's a reasonable app to avoid, if possible.

I’ve also used Clean-My-Mac for years. It works great for me. I don’t know what the negative statements are really based on. Seems more unsubstantiated rumors than real users.

A search on this forum and others will show it's not rumors. Besides, why pay for an app when there are free ones that will do the same thing? "OnyX" for example.
The thing with that is you have to have some knowledge other wise you could delete stuff that you should not have done.

Since i started using a Mac i have only read stuff about Mackeeper being a virus and that it is a hell of a job to get it off the Mac once it is on there.I can,t believe
Junk software that can do more damage than good.
There are lots of videos like this on utube.

Of course, MacKeeper is not literally a virus. Some say it's as bad as a virus. Are they all created equal?
Let's see; Influenza vs. COVID-19... Oh wait, don't go there! ;)

May I ask a simple and perhaps stupid question: What is wrong with Mac Keeper? Isn't CleanMyMac X on the Mac AppStore?

MacKeeper is perhaps most known for their possibly-deceptive marketing tactics.

CleanMyMac X is certainly on Apple's AppStore.
The two products are not from the same company. In fact, the company that owns MacKeeper sued the company that owns CleanMyMac X a few years ago, claiming that MacPaw/CleanMyMac employees were publicly defaming Kromtech (the company that currently owns MacKeeper.)

What is wrong with MacKeeper, you may ask? Don't know. Don't care.
All I do know is that if you run Malwarebytes on a Mac that has MacKeeper installed, Malwarebytes will point to it as a PUP.
I most recently saw that only last month after a scan on a customer's machine. It was loaded with dozens of malware items, mostly adware of various kinds, and MacKeeper was also one of those listed.

Avoid MacKeeper at all costs. Your Mac works fine without a cleaner and a lot of preventative maintenance is easier on your own.
I people should avoid Mackeeper, i clicked on it when it was on my yahoo mails at the top by accident i checked with my Cleanmymacx to see if there was any malware none on there :)
i just can,t believe Mackeeper is still going:rolleyes:

I'm glad to see I'm just adding to the choir, but, MacKeeper is quite literally malware. Stay far away.

I'm pretty sure you're joking, but please don't literally do this. I'm sure Malwarebytes does a pretty good job of cleaning up, but it's not worth taking the risk of installing MacKeeper in the first place. If you know what you're doing and want to investigate, use a Virtual Machine or a separate Mac with nothing else on it.

When I got my new Mac in 2016 Mackeeper downloaded. I swear I do not know how, but it did. The pop ups and junk were endless! i finally had to do a search on how to remove it. It took several attempts to get it all off. I have never heard anything good about this product.

This makes me reluctant to use Clean My Mac, but I have heard some positive things about it. I am not short on space, but in the next two years or so I may be upgrading a new Mac. It would be nice to have something that would remove a lot of stuff I don't need before I migrate from one system to another. In 2016 I did a clean install, but it royally screwed up my Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop lease and that took me two days of tech suport and giving Adobe charge of my screen to fix. I would prefer avoiding that scenario. Recommendations?

I have been using CleanMyMacX for over 3 years it is all fine with me. :)

One starts and then every dev company wants FULL DISK ACCESS ... OF COURSE.

The Login item always enables itself even though I disabled it.
I also disabled the Menu item.

I deactiveated scan DMG images because I see mounted volumes in Disk Utility even
though the images is not even mounted in the Finder and I have trouble to unmount
them in Disk Utility.

Some USB sticks are showing the same issue when CleanMyMac X health monitor is
operating in the background and scanning for malware. Eject here and then fails.
