I have a buddy with an iMac and his lock screen just shows a little login box with password input with the Lion galaxy wallpaper behind it.

Mine shows the big grey background with circles for users on the computer.

How do I get mine to do what his looks like?
 
System preferences>users and groups>turn off guest account. Then set your account to login with password.

Options include "Require password on wake up" which is what I think you mean. When the Mac goes to sleep you will be prompted for your password with the box you describe.
 
Guest account is disable but still shows up on the screen... and where is require password on sleep?

Okay, now if I lock my computer it does what I asked, but now when I restart it still goes to that grey login screen with guest
