I'm tempted to upgrade from my current MacBook Pro M1Pro which natively supports this HiDPI resolution (with the thunderbolt cable that came with the monitor) but I can't find any confirmation that the new M4 or M4 Pro supports it (indeed it seems impossible to get it).

Has anyone been able to try this combo (M4/M4Pro and LG 40WP95C) and can provide confirmation or denial of the problem?

BTW, my M1Pro look like this:

I had it working on my M1 Pro and Ventura 13.7.1. I just upgraded to an M4 Pro with Sequoia 15.1. I lost 3840x1620 resolution with HiDPI and I'm stuck at 3360x1418. I've tried BetterDisplay, and I can't switch to 3840x1620 with HiDPI, only scaled which looks terrible.

I have a MacBook Pro 16" with M4 Pro chip. I can't get the 3840x1620 HiDPI resolution. I moved from an Intel 16" MBP, so it's quite disappointing. That also means I can't compare whether the problem is M4 Pro specific or other versions of the Mx Pro chips.

A preliminary analysis by waybabber seems to speculate on a software problem that Apple might fix in future updates.

It is possible that only the M4 Pro will be able to be subsequently managed (although, in another discussion, a user had success with a similar monitor, a basic M4 and a specific ugreen thunderbolt-displayport cable).

In the meantime, to test this I ordered an M4 base and the mentioned cable.

I am still waiting for the supply of the whole thing (mini+cable), I hope in a few days to have the results.
In the meantime, I will also check if there are updated firmware for the monitor (although I don't believe it much).

After receiving a Mac mini Pro (base Version) and testing it with both the TB4 cable that came with the monitor and the UGREEN 8k usbc-displayport cable, I must unfortunately confirm that the maximum achievable HiDPI resolution is 3360x1418.

We can only hope that Apple will correct this glaring oversight.

Maybe we can include the number assigned to other users in the feedback so that we don't have the problem of the

Same issue here. I have a MBP M1 Pro which has the 3840x1620 resolution. Mac Mini M4 Pro doesn't have it. I tried displaybuddy where you can get the resolution, but it doesn't look as "crispy" as in the MBP. My return window on the Mac Mini is closing this week, I believe I will return it due to this issue. If it ever gets fixed, I'll get it again.

Gone is the “15.2” hope, there always remains the Betterdisplay ( thanks @waydabber )lifesaver... although Apple might even make a little effort :(

Hi,
Does it look good using BetterDisplay? I downloaded it but it doesn't look to pretty. I'm thorn in between this because my Mac Mini return window closes today. I'm afraid Apple won't ever fix this honestly

The resolution and hz are correct with this method, however, it is not ideal, I agree. Apple does not seem interested in proposing solutions for accessories beyond what it itself proposes. A real shame because this monitor was perfect with M1 Pro.

Same issue on M4 Max. The Virtual display work around does the job but is not ideal.

I read through this entire thread and think it’s hilarious that some people casually replaced their perfectly working monitors with the Dell 40” because it’s the only 5k display they can output at the correct resolution.

I’m not willing to jump to a Dell as it’s basically the same display but would consider the new 45” OLED from LG if it ends up being any good.

How are you getting the 3360x1418 HiDPI resolution?
I can only get 2580x1080 with the thunderbolt cable that came with the monitor on a M4

I switched from a M1 pro to a base m4 chip and was getting 3008 x 1200, since switching to a m4 pro chip. only hidpi is 3360 x 1418. Is this something apple will fix soon or should I somehow find a way to sell this niche monitor and get the dell variant?

My personal thought is that Apple needs to fix the issue... otherwise with each version of the macs we will be forced to change (very) expensive accessories based on what Apple wants or doesn't want to support based on their whims (i.e. without valid technical reasons).

OK, here’s my dumb question: if people have a 16:9 screen ratio, why choose 3840x1620? Wouldn’t 16:9 be more like 3840x2160? 3840x1620 seems like it would be 16:6.75? 🤷‍♂️

What am I missing™️?
