Is there a way to preserve the buckets that Gmail logic is able to divide mail (Primary, Social, Updates, Forums, Promotions) in MacMail? Thanks.

Those seem to be "labels" at the Gmail site but they're not the same as the IMAP labels that show up as folders in Mac Mail or any other IMAP desktop client.

I suggested somewhere else that it might be possible to create standard labels (folders) corresponding to those categories and write & import custom rules at Gmail to apply the standard labels to the categorized mail. Haven't seen it done, though.
