Mac mail app and gmail

How would I get Mac Mail to delete my messages to gmail trash instead of "archiving" to all mail.

Go to Mail --> Preferences --> Accounts --> Mailbox Behaviors or Advanced and see if you can find anything there.

Are you using POP or IMAP? If you use IMAP, you can click on the IMAP trash folder, and then under the "Mailbox" menu select "Use this mailbox for -> Trash"

I think that will do what you want.
